Campaign Manager Job
Description for 2008
Duties
and authority:
The
Campaign Manager’s responsibility is to run the 2008 Bexar County Democratic
general election campaign. This will be
done according to a budget approved by the County Executive Committee (CEC),
and according to a campaign plan which will include a county-wide campaign
supporting all Democratic candidates, on which the manager will have input,
this plan also to be approved by the CEC.
Duties include recruiting and managing a field director, volunteer director, finance director, and phone bank director, which are to be part-time positions.
The
campaign manager’s authority to expend funds will be set by CEC resolution and
will be limited by the BCDP’s continuing rules, internal control procedures,
and by the campaign budget. The manager
will work closely with the Treasurer and the Budget committee. The campaign manager does not have authority
to borrow or to make long-term high-dollar contracts.
The
campaign manager will be under the supervision of the Campaign Committee, and
under the day to day oversight of the
Qualifications:
The campaign manager must
be a decision maker, with no personal agenda, and be willing to assist all
Democrats.
This individual must have
the ability to work well with others and a network of support volunteers would
be desirable.
This individual must be
able to coordinate the efforts of clubs, candidates, the official Democratic
Party organization, and volunteers.
This individual must be
able to organize a central political headquarters.
This individual must have
experience managing a political campaign, preferably a coordinated campaign
involving multiple candidates.
Experience should include
managing paid workers, recruiting and managing unpaid volunteers, managing a
phone bank, forming campaign strategy, managing generation of fund raising
letters and other campaign mailings, and a track record of attracting other
Democrats to work in campaigns.
Experience in the local
political arena is important.
Required to be an
experienced user of Microsoft Office, email, and Internet search engines.
The
campaign manager should be prepared to work 40-plus hour weeks for four months,
beginning in July 2008.
